FAQ

Our engineering process has evolved over many years and is specific to our company working methodology. If we go in for your product, do we have to change this process?
No, you do not have to change the process to implement WRENCH. Its in-built product development approach has been designed for the typical situation where processes and outputs are manual. However, some of our customers have chosen to review and update their product development process to handle electronic data more efficiently, but this is not mandatory.

Say I go ahead and get WRENCH implemented. Won't it increase my total product development process time?
Not at all - quite the opposite, actually. WRENCH can be configured during implementation to allow certain processes to be bypassed, while enforcing all others across your organization. In addition, WRENCH will automatically flag any bypassed processes, so that they can be later completed.

Our customer provides us the final product drawing and we define the product manufacturing process - process flow diagram, process FMEA, control plan etc. However, we do design the tools, jigs, fixtures, and machines ourselves. Is WRENCH capable of handling so many different levels of data?
Yes. WRENCH was designed by experienced engineers with many years of hands-on expertise in the fields of design and manufacturing. It can easily handle ALL your product development data -PFC, PFMEA, control plans, all quality document etc.
The longer you use WRENCH, the more value it delivers, as it captures and stores all you data which can be later reused. In this case, WRENCH will capture, sort and store all design data pertaining to tools, machines, gauges etc. This database provides instant access for any future modification - any change in one specific document/file will result in all related documents being updated automatically.

We are using 2D/3D CAD software, Microsoft products etc, and thus our documents are in several different formats. Can WRENCH handle all types of output data? For example, can an MSWord document viewed, printed and commented in WRENCHwithout having to launch MsOffice?
Yes, WRENCH can handle data from all the latest version of 2D/3D CAD packages available in the market such as Pro-E, Ideas, Unigraphics, Catia, Solid works, Autodesk Inventor, Solid edge etc. and the documentation software such as MS Word, MS Excel etc. The built-in WRENCHviewer supports about 300 commonly used files formats. This Viewer can be used for opening, printing and redlining commenting on these file formats without using the software used to create it.

How is WRENCH different from ERP software?
The main difference is that ERP software is generic, i.e. for any corporate office in any industry, whereas WRENCH is exclusively for companies involved in new product development, and even more specifically for auto component manufacturers. ERP typically manages the non-engineering process of an organization - such as Purchase, Sales, Production planning, finance, inventory management etc. On the other hand, WRENCH primary function is to manage the Engineering process and data related to product development - right from customer requirement up until release for Production.

We already have an ERP system (SAP/ Oracle/ inhouse developed ERP). Can WRENCH be integrated with it so that there is no duplication of work?
Yes. WRENCH has out-of-the-box integration with standard ERP software such as SAP, Oracle and Jdedwards. We have many sites in India where this integration has been in use for the past 3-4 years such as Kenametal WIDIA, Bajaj Auto, Sanmar group, Tata power, L&T-Chennai to mention a few. WRENCHhas also been integrated with the custom-built or internally-developed ERP software which are being used by some of customers.
