Industry leader tries out WRENCH EPC with great success, now switches completely to WRENCH EPC for all its projects, and in near future extend WRENCH to its other businesses also.
Khatib & Alami is the biggest Architectural Engineering and project management companies in the middle east region, with a reputation for creating some of world’s largest and most unique buildings in the world, including the very prestigious Jeballi Airport (one of the largest cargo airport in the world).

K&A is located in 12 countries and has projects are in the field of infrastructure, District and city waste management system, Transportation (Roads, bridges, Airports), Oil and gas engineering in collaboration with ARAMCO (Saudhi Arabia), GIS etc.,

Manual process, insufficient support from existing I.T threatens continued growth
To support its rapid growth, K&A had put together a file-based system and identified a document controller in each location to upload and download file from a common FTP server. The challenge of this system was there was a lot of manual labour and huge dependency on the document controllers. This combined with the many bottlenecks, delays and challenges inherent in any manual-driven working environment made K&T decide to opt for a more robust and comprehensive I.T. system that could offer proven business value for real-world requirements.

After checking out the various solutions available in the market, K&A chose WRENCH based on its strong track record and good domain expertise.

“For the past 15 years, we have been looking for a solution which could manage our projects, ensure compliance, manage project data and keep all stake holders on the same page. WRENCH was the only solution that fit the bill… now we have total control on the project and 24 X 7 access to the latest data without depending on our managers or human resources”.

Mr.Ala Hasooun Head – IT department, Khatib & Alami

Results
K&A is extremely happy with the results it has seen so far from WRENCH. WRENCH-EPC is now being rolled out across all the other office locations and all project handled by K&A. WRENCH-EPC is also being implemented for in the Infrastructure, Oil and Gas, Transportation and GIS business of K&A.

WRENCH replaces Documentum, adds much-needed functionality to capture and reuse project information.
Since 1958, Metito, UAE has earned a reputation for excellence in the design and supply of water / wastewater treatment and water desalination systems. With a highly-trained staff of over 800 professionals, Metito's approach combines theoretical expertise with the practical experience of an engineering and contracting company.

From ‘document management’ to project, quality, process and Engineering data management.
Some time earlier Metito had invested in the popular EDMS software Documentum in a bid to capture and hopefully be able to reuse project information like drawings and other documentation. Going by the example of many other engineering companies who had also installed this s/w, Metito went ahead and got Documentum, and thus were reluctant to explore the new solution WRENCH. However, the WRENCH team managed to make a demo to a senior team at Metito, who were so impressed by the process-driven approach of WRENCH EPC that they were willing to evaluate further, even though at the time had already decided to invest in another software called Mclaren (which had a workflow module) to run on top of Documentum.

Evaluating with reference customers and pilot implementation
Metito’s Quality manager and Project manager visited 5 WRENCH EPC customer sites, and speaking directly to the end users and implementation team at these sites, gave a very positive report back to the management. They decided to go ahead with a WRENCH pilot implementation, which was a great success, and got positive response from Metito’s consultant partners also.

Roll out
The consultant recommended that WRENCH be implemented across the entire organization to improve reduce cycle time and ensure quality. WRENCH was then rolled out across all Metito’s offices, starting from their head office in UAE and in Qatar, India, cairo and Manila.

Results
Along with faster cycle time and assured quality, Metito was able to Streamline the entire product process from inquiry – to – delivery, with special attention to enquiry processing. Tackle manpower constraints by automating workflows, make quality control foolproof and non-tamperable.

Bangalore, 28 June, 2007- WRENCH Solutions (P) Ltd.
today launched WRENCH Enterprise™, a premium version of its PLM-based product suite for the engineering and manufacturing sector. Like previous versions, WRENCH Enterprise™ offers a cost-effective way for medium-large engineering organizations to enforce and monitor the complete design-to-delivery process across the organization, while simultaneously monitoring and managing all associated data/documents, resources, communication and collaboration in real-time.

With India’s and middle east leading engineering brands using WRENCH already, this product version is poised to offer a new level of ease-of-use, flexibility and integration. Initial tests have shown that this product can be used with minimal training/learning curve by any level of user.

“More and more, engineering organizations are recognizing the need for non-fussy solutions to basic problems like reusing past project/product data, getting up-to-date work status without depending on managers, tracking deliverables across groups without relying on manual communication methods, interacting quickly and cheaply with all business and project entities like customers, consultants, contractors, and vendors, and so on. After a decade’s worth of experience in solving these issues, we felt the time was right to focus on making an ‘ideal engineering working environment’. To that end, we have created a product that offers not just great functionality but greatly enhanced ease of use and a wholly intuitive user experience. WRENCH Enterprise™ represents this much-needed combination perfectly.” said Varghese Daniel, Director of WRENCH Solutions.

Key features of WRENCH Enterprise™ include:

  • All user interfaces look and feel exactly like the familiar windows operating system environment, which means much faster learning curve and smooth user adoption within the organization
  • In-depth usability tests showed that even engineers who so far had worked only with applications like Msword & MSExcel were able to start using WRENCH Enterprise™ without any training. Also, it could be configured with ease by managers and administrators with very minimal initial hand-holding.
  • The product can be very quickly deployed across multiple office locations within or across multiple countries.
  • The product architecture is optimised to work with the limitation of the internet bandwidth. Since low bandwidth and similar problems are the reality for most engineering companies who have offices in out-of-the-way or non-urban locations, WRENCH Enterprise offers a practical solution to many real-world infrastructure issues that may never show up on paper. The product is capable of handling large size files (Tested for 70MB) and large databases even under non-optimum conditions.
  • Compared to most products/solutions of its type, WRENCH products offer a very large scope of functionality that spans everything from inter-office communication to ISO-prescribed process enforcement. To ensure customer comfort levels, and to resolve the implementation bottlenecks that are typical to this industry, WRENCH Enterprise™ offers a staggered-implementation model. This helps a customer to see tangible value-for-money at every stage. In this model, application modules are rolled out in disparate phases i.e., engineering data management first, followed by project management, quality management, etc.
  • Tests showed that even in initial phases, product performance is enhanced by 30%. This figure is expected to grow rapidly as WRENCH permeates the working culture.
  • Tests show that, thanks to the new user interfaces, most common operations took 50-55% less time than usual to complete.
  • To optimize performance further, WRENCH Enterprise™ works on fully 64bit Windows operating system.
  • To enable easy interfacing with other/existing/legacy enterprise applications that the customer may have, WRENCH Enterprise™ has been built on a very open architecture to ensure fast and painless integration.

FOURESS ENGINEERING implements WRENCH CPD

May 2007: FOURESS ENGINEERING INDIA LTD. is the flagship company of the FOURESS GROUP of companies and commenced operations in 1962 with the manufacture of carbon steel industrial valves at Thane. Growing markets, shifts in production and the demand for a vast range of products and the latest technology has further led to the setting up of 8 other plants within India namely at Bangalore, Aurangabad, Chennai and Baroda.

A recent internal study at Fouress showed that 90% of products designed over the last year 3 years could have been built much faster from existing products (assuming that existing product information was available easily).

Need for data reusability and knowledge management
Fouress thus decided to implement a drawing and document archival system which would store all their existing drawings/documents in a centralized location. However, when WRENCH CPD demonstrated a much more advanced product configuration functionality which went beyond mere data storage, they realized that not only could they drastically reduce cycle time but also greatly improve productivity, monitor work online, and ensure 100% quality across all groups.

Knowledge management: Challenges and Expectations
To get the most out of their software investment, Fouress first conducted a poll across each group to identify specific challenges and user expectations. The response showed bottlenecks like:

  • Poor visibility to status of orders under design and manufacturing
  • Poor visibility to status of Advance Procurement
  • Preparing documents for ISO audit
  • Inter Office Communications
  • Clarifications requested causes delay

Design and production groups were concerned about issues like:

  • Re-usability of existing designs
  • Standardisation in Parts
  • Inter office communication
  • Inter Office Communications
  • Percolation of Order Status to concerned depts
  • Inter Office Communications
  • Affectivity of document revisions on WIP/Pipeline orders
  • Preparing documents for ISO audit

The following user expectations emerged when evaluating various document/data management packages on the market today:

  • Design department should acknowledge all enquiries received automatically
  • Process of DE preparation should be faster
  • Marketing department able to search available standard designs and old proposals without depending on Design Department.
  • Status of orders under processing should be visible online
  • Enhanced document management, as per ISO
  • Standardisation of Parts – Sector wise and Application wise
  • Able to retrieve parts/Documents based on attributes defined on each types
  • Reduce time for custom designing, by allowing to re-use old designs and BOMs
  • Archival for proposal design estimates
  • Inter office communications and collaborative use of documents by different departments

Why WRENCH CPD?
Given the depth and complexity of the requirements, Fouress began looking at solutions in the market that offered varying degrees of document management and data archiving, but were unable to find a perfect match until they were approached by WRENCH.

Fouress senior management, including Mrs.Smitha Shetty (MD) and Mr.Manjumdar (JMD), evaluated WRENCH-CPD in detail by sending a team to visit WRENCH reference site at TIDC (Murugappa group). The team was able to see firsthand how WRENCH-CPD works in real-life conditions, and how it integrates with Oracle-Ebusiness.

Benefits
WRENCH-CPD is now being used as a front end to Oracle-Ebusiness for creation of parts, BOM and for handling the change management process with integration to the 2D\3D CAD
software. This prevents any possibility of human error during exchange of information
between Engineering departments and commercial department. Fouress’s engineers can now look through existing product data and its variants before creating a new product, which has greatly reduced engineering cycle time and work effort.

As proficiency with the system grows, it is expected that productivity will rise even further, and time cycles will continue to shrink.
